Flatbed & Field Cameras
Another type of view camera is the flatbed or field model. Flatbed cameras have front and rear standards that can slide together or apart on a bed. The frame usually consists of a dual telescoping track which enables you to adjust the lens-to-film distance quite easily.
Most flatbed cameras can be folded up into a compact, self-contained box for easy carrying. Some flatbed cameras don't allow you to use interchangeable bellows and this can be a setback if you plan on using very wide-angle lenses. Flatbeds usually allow for fewer movements and less of the ones provided than monorail cameras. Flatbed cameras are usually made of wood, metal or carbon and are light enough to transport anywhere. However, you must be careful when folding it to ensure no debris gets into it and that you fold it the way it was intended. Flatbed cameras and field cameras usually range in price from about $500 to $10,000.
