Strobe Lighting is used for many purposes like alarm systems, nightclubs and as a system of danger warning. In photography, strobe lighting basically refers to lighting by external flashes. It is an electronic flash system with variable power adjustments which operate on electricity or rechargeable battery power packs. The system usually has a test button and a sync cord that attaches to your camera. They can be very powerful and they have a quick recycling time.
A built in adjustable modeling light helps the unit to see the subject and the way in which the highlights and shadows will appear after the strobe goes off properly. Some of these flash units come with a built in slave to help connect several strobe flashes together and trigger them all at the same time.
Flash units generally range in price from about $50 to $1,000 for a kit. Underwater units are also available.
