JPEG
These letters are an acronym for Joint Photographic Experts Group. It is an image file format in which the file size is reduced by compression. All JPEG image files come with the extension jpg.
K14
This refers to the chemical process that is used for developing Kodachrome slides.
Kelvin (°K)
This is the format used to measure the color of light in degrees. Kelvin temperature is the same as Centigrade temperature plus 273 degrees.
LCD
These letters stand for liquid crystal display. A LCD is the image viewing screen on a digital camera. This is where you see your images.
Loupe
A loupe is a small magnifying glass that is usually used for viewing transparencies (slides), negatives and contact sheets. However, you can use a loupe to view anything really as it magnifies objects by 800 percent or eight times.
Macrograph
This refers to a photograph that is the same size or larger than the object you photographed.
Matte
This refers to a finish on photo paper or other surface. A matte finish means a relatively dull surface with a low level of specular reflection on it. Many people get their photographs made on a matte finish instead of glossy.
Megabyte
A megabyte is 1,048,576 bytes.
Millimeter
A millimeter is a unit of length. It is 0.001 of a meter. One inch is approximately 25.4 millimeters. Most camera equipment such as lenses is measured in millimeters.
Monochrome
This means a single colored image in differing shades, such as a black and white or sepia-toned image as black and white images are basically all tones of grey.
