- Quartz Lights
- These are assorted types of lights that use tungsten-halogen lamps.
- Ready Light
- A ready light is a small light situated on a flash unit. The light shines to let you know there is enough power to fire the flash. If the light isn't on then the flash isn't ready.
- Recycling Time
- This is the length of time it takes for a flash unit to recharge after it has been fired.
- Reflected Light
- This is light that has been deflected from an opaque surface, object or material. The light is reflected from the object instead of being absorbed by it.
- Red Eye
- Red eye occurs when somebody's eyes are red instead of their natural color in a photograph. It happens when the light from a flash travels through the iris of the eyes and illuminates the retina at the back of the eyes. The retina is red because of its blood vessels. There are many computer programs available that can take out the red eye effect in your photos.
- Reflector
- A reflector is something that is used to reflect light onto an object. A flash reflector is a shiny surface that is behind the flash tube which reflects the light in a specific direction.
- Refraction
- This refers to a ray of light that changes direction. Generally, light that travels in a straight line will alter its course or bend as it strikes any light transmitting surface, at any angle other than perpendicular.
- RGB
- RGB is an acronym for the primary colors of light which are red, green and blue.
- Ring Flash
- A ring flash is a circular shaped electronic flash unit that is ideal for close-up photography. A ring flash fits around a lens and gives you shadowless, uniform frontal lighting.
- Roll Film
- Roll film is film that has a lightproof paper backing on it. The film is wound onto a spool.
