One of the oldest and most popular styles of photography in the world is portrait photography. This technique can be practiced outdoors, but is commonly done in a studio or somewhere else indoors. Portraits are not overly artistic as they are usually head shots or upper body photos of the subject or subjects. However, you can try to show some artistic insight into the person's personality or character. This may be done in the lighting or perhaps the background of the photo. It's a good idea to choose the best angle and side while taking the photo, to show your subject's best features and to emphasize their strengths. Make your subject feel at ease and get their input and ideas. Make sure you have adequate lighting and there are no obstructions or reflections. Not every portrait has to look like it was taken years ago, so use your imagination and be a little creative or adventurous. Portraits can often be just as, or more effective, in black and white as they are in color.
